10-km run kills 2 more cops

Two constables of the UP police died on Thursday due to complications caused by respiratory arrest they suffered during the 10-kilometre run to qualify for promotion to the rank of sub-inspector in Sitapur on Tuesday.

Both were undergoing treatment in Lucknow hospitals.

With this,the death toll in the physical test has gone up to six. More than 370 constables have taken ill so far in the test which began on July 19.

Sitapur SP Piyush Mordia said the constables,Ghanshyam Yadav and Hari Ram Yadav,were referred to the CSM Medical University in Lucknow from where their families shifted them to Mayo Hospital and Ford Hospital,respectively,in Gomti Nagar area on Wednesday. However,their condition did not improve and both died in the afternoon,Mordia said.

Ghanshyam was posted with the Malihabad police station while Hari Ram was with the 32nd battalion of the PAC.

The SP said they have now started checking the blood pressure of constables appearing for the endurance test.

More than 370 constables have taken ill so far in the test that began on July 19.
