Wheeling Around

The practice of zooming around on a narrow laminated plywood attached to fibre-glass wheels is not a favourite hobby for Indians — and Arom Reverr,21,a professional skateboarder, cannot understand why.

The practice of zooming around on a narrow laminated plywood attached to fibre-glass wheels is not a favourite hobby for Indians — and Arom Reverr,21,a professional skateboarder, cannot understand why. “There is no limitation for skateboarding. People of all sizes, ages and builts can perform this sport,” he says, even as he launches himself high into the air with his board magically stuck to his feet. By the time he lands firmly on the ground, the crowd that had gathered for the opening of the first Vans,a sports footwear store,at Ambience Mall,Vasant Kunj,is already toying with the idea of skateboarding. Reverr, who took up the sport professionally and started coaching skateboarding enthusiasts, after moving to Bangalore from his home town of Brighton,England,in February, doles out words of encouragement — “Anybody can do skateboard stunts like me,they only need to have passion and lots of practice. You can be pushing and rolling within a day,” he says, making it sound easy.

The launch also had a moustached Abhay Deol making a starry entrance. “The moustache is for my next film with Dibakar Banerjee titled,Shanghai,” he says. But we were not

impressed,it was the

skateboard stunts that steals the limelight.
