Two held for duping students

Two persons were arrested for allegedly duping more than 20 students by promising them admissions in different private management and engineering colleges.

Two persons were arrested for allegedly duping more than 20 students by promising them admissions in different private management and engineering colleges.

This after two students lodged a complaint with the Shakespeare Sarani police station against Ashis Mukherjee and Sourav Dasgupta,owners of Career World,a private counselling centre.

According to the police,Mukherjee and Dasgupta,both residents of Jadavpur,had opened a placement centre in Chatterjee International building near Park Street. They also published advertisements in different newspapers promising admissions to students in private colleges.

A year ago,Monoranjan Podder paid Rs 2.5 lakh to the duo for getting admission in a private engineering college. But after one year when he didn’t get admission,he lodged a complaint with the police. This was followed by more complaints by some students. “We initiated a probe which revealed that Mukherjee and Dasgupta had duped more than 20 students,” said a senior police officer.
