Trinamool leader shot at in Dumdum

Police on Thursday arrested four persons for reportedly opening fire at TMC yuva block president of Dumdum area in North 24 Parganas.

Kolkata:Police on Thursday arrested four persons for reportedly opening fire at TMC yuva block president of Dumdum area in North 24 Parganas. Sibu Majumdar,a senior TMC leader was talking to someone near a shop in Dumdum area when four persons in an ambassador opened fire at him. Majumdar,however,escaped the attack. The locals chased the accused persons while police nabbed them. Police have recovered a 9 mm pistol and a single-shot pistol from the arrested persons -Apu Singh,Rabi Roy,Sourav Roy and Mukul Baidya Roy. Nirmal Ghosh,TMC district president said that in last few months three TMC leaders were shot dead and several leaders were attacked in the district and the police administration had done nothing about it.

Teacher ‘removes’ students’ leggings

Kolkata:The parents of some students of a school in North 24 Parganas lodged a police complaint on Thursday against a teacher who allegedly forced the students to remove their leggings saying that it was not part of school uniform. The incident occurred at Bedi Gopalpur Adarsha High School at Gaighata in North 24 Parganas.

The parents of the students complained that an English teacher,Bipasha Thakur,ordered three Class VII students to remove leggings that they wore since they are not part of school uniform. When the students refused,she removed them herself. The students informed their parents about the incident after school hours,following which,the angry parents came to the school and staged a demonstration demanding action against the teacher. They met the school head master and demanded disciplinary action against the teacher for her misconduct. Basudeb Ghosh,secretary of the school managing committee,said that the guardians had exaggerated the incident and that the managing committee would discuss the matter in the meeting to be held next week.

School Education minister Bratya Basu,when informed,said appropriate action would be taken against the teacher after enquiry. SP ,North 24 Pargana,Champak Bhattacharjee said they had interrogated the teacher and necessary action will be taken against her.

In another incident in East Midnapore,a teacher of Tamluk Kalinan Matangini High School,Chaitali Samanta,lodged a complaint with the district inspector of school alleging that she was mentally harassed by school authorities for wearing salwar.
