Local and long-distance trains on Howrah-Bardhaman chord line and Seoraphuli-Tarakeswar section of Eastern Railways Howrah division were affected on Tuesday following blockade by Jharkhand Disham Party (JDP) supporters.
Thirteen local trains had to be cancelled while several long-distance ones were diverted causing massive inconvenience to the passengers.
Agitating JDP supporters squatted on rail tracks at Sibaichandi,Gurap and Jaugram for two to three hours during peak office hours. The supporters were protesting against the alleged attack on their members at Pursura in Hooghly. On September 11,JDP men had allegedly clashed with Trinamool supporters over construction of a party office.
Seven long-distance trains,including Up Shatabdi Express,Down Rajdhani Express,Down Amritsar Mail,Down Chambal Express,Down Kanchan Kanya Express,had to be diverted via Bandel-Howrah mainline.
