TMC-CPM clash in Burdwan,one killed

The clash reportedly broke out in CPM-dominated Raina after CPM cadres attacked Trinamool men who were trying to organise a meeting in the village. The villagers claimed the police did not respond to repeated calls from the TMC men,which led to the death.

TMC general secretary Mukul Roy visited the village and spoke to the victim’s family.

Sources said that around 16 Trinamool men were injured in the clash. They were admitted to Burdwan medical college and then three of them were shifted to SSKM hospital.

College principal assaulted

A principal of a government college was assaulted today by supporters of the student wing of TMC at Jhargram in West Midnapore. Kishore Kumar Radi,principal of Jhargram Raj College,and a few teachers were assaulted when they tried to intervene during a scuffle between two groups of students.

“I thought it was my moral responsibility to intervene in the altercation. They charged me,saying I had provoked the students against the TMC and they started hitting me. Soumen Acharya,vice-president of TMCP in Jhargram,attacked me,” said Radi.

The college authorities have called a meeting of different student’s unions during the day before holding students election at the institution.

“I have heard of the matter. I will collect information from the principal and take necessary action,” Education Minister Bratya Basu said.
