After the Lok Sabha elections, the chief electoral officer is all set to conducting the 11 by-elections that will be held in the state. This is the first time in the state that 11 Assembly constituencies have been vacated after parliamentary elections, said Chief Electoral Officer Debashis Sen on Thursday.
By-elections will be conducted in 1,598 polling stations across the state.
It is a huge task in hand for the 11 electoral registration officers who are now mapping the old Assembly constituencies with the current electoral rolls. The work of mapping will be completed by June 10 and then it will be given to various political parties for scrutiny. In case of any dispute, the political parties will have to raise it by June 16. One this is done,we will be sending the rolls to Delhi by June 29. We are hopeful that Delhi will finalise the dates and we can have the by-elections by the end of July or latest by the beginning of August, Sen said.
