Former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, who was expelled from the CPM in 2008,has appealed to the electorate of West Bengal to vote for Left Front candidates. He is also considering a request from a Left candidate to campaign for him.
Some local CPM people have issued an appeal urging the electorate to vote for the Left in the coming elections and I have signed that. I have also received a request from a Left candidate to campaign for him. I have not yet taken any decision…. I am not very well also, Chatterjee, who is now staying at Santiniketan, told The Indian Express over phone.
The former Speaker, who has good relations with Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, said it would be good for the state if Bhattacharjee became chief minister again.
The octogenarian leader attacked the Trinamool Congress, saying that those who indulge in vandalism in the Assembly have no right to come to power. They are talking of change but what change will there be? They are saying no development took place in Bengal in the last 34 years but I wont accept that. They themselves did not allow the government to do anything. They indulged in vandalism in the lobby of the Assembly. It is so unfortunate, Chatterjee said.
