THE State Election Commission has sought a report from the government regarding the transfer of 19 Block Development Officers (BDOs) and two Sub-Divisional Officers ahead of the panchayat elections.

Tapas Roy ,Secretary,SEC,said a note has been sent to the government seeking clarification for such a mass transfer ahead of the election. Officials of the Commission said it would be difficult to carry out election-related work if there persists a huge vacancy at block level. The Commission has been coordinating with the BDOs since April 2012 for panchayat election, and according to them their transfer will hamper poll work.

“If new BDOs will be appointed, then they will have to be given fresh training and it is not feasible for us to conduct fresh training considering lack of manpower and time,” said an official of the SEC.
