It was in 2008 that chit fund companies first mushroomed in West Bengal, later spreading to neighbouring Assam, Tripura, Jharkhand, Bihar and Odisha. (Express File Photo/ Representational Image) Accusing TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee of being involved in the Saradha chit fund scam, Leader of Opposition in Assembly Suvendu Adhikari on Monday claimed that he would submit “evidence” to the CBI, the central probe agency.
“In the next two to three days, I will go to the Nizam Palace or the CGO complex and present evidence against Mamata Banerjee in the Sarada corruption case to the CBI Joint Director,” the BJP MLA from Nandigram said but refused to talk about the alleged “evidence”.
Senior TMC MLA Tapas Roy hit back, saying, “Why is he saying it after so long? In fact, he wants to float in the media different things at different times. Let him remember that Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee cannot be hurt by this kind of slander and misinformation.
” TMC spokesperson Shantanu Sen said, “The person who is accused in the Saradha and Narada case and was seen on TV taking money, will he give evidence? The people of the country will not trust such a person who has himself changed party to escape from corruption probe.”
