RVNL floats Rs 377 crore tender for IIM station, viaduct on Kolkata Metro’s Purple line

Kolkata Metro Purple Line Update: In recent years, Kolkata Metro has expanded its network by leaps and bounds. Last month, the country’s oldest metro network commissioned three new lines, significantly improving connectivity across the ‘City of Joy’, while reducing travel time for office-goers, students, businessmen and daily commuters.

RVNL Kolkata Metro Tender

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has floated a tender worth over Rs 377 crore for the construction of a viaduct and one elevated metro station on Kolkata Metro’s Purple line. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 377,82,01,812.74. 

The Navratna company under the Ministry of Railways, invited bids under single stage two packet system for the work of “Construction of Metro Railway Viaduct from Ch. (-) 495.769m to Ch. (-) 2046.594m = 1370.825 m (excluding IIM Station) in between Joka Metro Station to IIM Metro Station and one elevated Metro Station (IIM Station) in connection with Joka Diamond Park (Phase-I) of Metro Railway Project in Kolkata, West Bengal, India,” the statement reads.

Kolkata Metro Purple Line

Presently, Kolkata Metro’s Purple Line is operational between Joka and Majerhat. On the other hand, the construction of the underground Mominpur -Esplanade stretch of Joka-Esplanade Metro corridor is going o­n in full swing.

Kolkata Metro Ridership

On September 1, Kolkata Metro carried 8.07 lakhs passengers across all corridors. Out of these, 5.84 lakh passengers travelled in Blue Line alone. In Blue Line the maximum passenger counts of more than 66,000 was registered at Dum Dum. At Esplanade and Rabindra Sadan the passenger counts were more than 57,000 and around 41,000 respectively.

In Green Line, more than 2.04 lakh passengers travelled in between Salt Lake Sector V and Howrah Maidan yesterday. In this corridor maximum passenger count of more than 49,000 was registered at Sealdah Metro station. At Howrah Metro station, passenger count was more than 48,700. At Howrah Maidan, this count was 25,500.

In Yellow, Orange and Purple lines, yesterday’s passenger counts were around 7,000, 5,500 and 6,700, respectively.
