Royal fallout

The noted singer who regularly featured in CM’s entourage recently was a witness to Mamata’s ire.

If Atri Bhattacharya, the flamboyant principal secretary in the department of Information and Culture fell out of favour of CM Mamata Banerjee, another person who was a favourite of the chief minister was singer Indranil Sen. The noted singer who regularly featured in CM’s entourage recently was a witness to Mamata’s ire. Grapevine has it that the chief minister asked the singer why he was always present in her vicinity. A red faced Sen left the place in a huff, not to be seen again.

Playing it safe

Ministers heaved a sigh of relief after report cards of all departments came out on December 20,the day Mamata Banerjee met ministers and secretaries to take stock of the developmental work the state government had taken since it assumed power. As there was fear in the minds of some ministers that the CM might drop some of her cabinet colleagues. But Mamata did none of this,as political circles explained, she would not do with the Lok Sabha elections just six months away. “The CM will not afford to antagonise any minister now as the elections are around the corner,’’ a party leader said.

Security nightmare

The state government is planning to set up a museum at Writers, but the 250-year-old building has already become a tourist hub, with people dropping in at will and the place has turned into nightmare for security officials.
