More than a year after Taare Zameen Par became a runaway hit,Tisca Chopra is still fighting to lose the image of a weepy mother. I dont want to do such roles, she says firmly. Well, shes in luck first-time director Sharat Kataria has signed her on for Rangeen, alongside funny men Purab Kohli and Rajat Kapoor. I have a ribtickling comic role. Its diametrically opposite to my role in TZP, she says with a chuckle.
Perhaps to make the point even further,Chopra has a new slim look, which she accentuated in a figure-hugging outfit during a visit to Delhi last week to offer tips at a childrens acting workshop at the British Council. I recently started a weight loss programme to lose all the extra fat. I have always been fit and trim, she says.
She also has eyes set on Hollywood and reveals that her last trip was to Los Angeles, where she met a few casting agents. Back home, she will soon be seen in a cameo in Vinay Shuklas Mirch,a film on women emancipation, starring Konkana Sen Sharma and Raima Sen.
But,shes still looking for the film with a difference,a role that would match TZPs. I would love comedy but not slapstick or a satire. I would feel comfortable doing a situational comedy as that is the kind of cinema I have grown up on in the US, she says, adding that will soon be off for a family vacation to Scotland.
It isnt only films that keep her busy,Chopra is also attached with a project under the National Knowledge Commission to promote access to faster education in rural India.
