“It's an idea which should glow like a bulb. It should glow till the filament bursts,” says Aranya Gupta, art director of Magic Wallrush IV-the masquerade. The idea in question is a day-long “carnival” which will see exhibits of photographs, painting and graphic art creations made by the members.

“It’s an idea which should glow like a bulb. It should glow till the filament bursts,” says Aranya Gupta, art director of Magic Wallrush IV-the masquerade. The idea in question is a day-long “carnival” which will see exhibits of photographs, painting and graphic art creations made by the members. “Magic Wallrush is a youth initiative that aims to bring art to the people of Kolkata, guerilla style.,” says Arijit Sett, founder member of Magic Wallrush.

The third edition of the Wallrush will see quite a few new initiatives. “We have roped in a few baul performers and there will be a small performance area too,” says Opashona Ghosh,co-founder of Magic Wallrush. And those who have their hearts set on all things stylish, you have hand painted t-shirts,batik-print cloth and scarves made by the group, waiting to grace your wardrobe.

The members hope to offer a complete experience to the visitors. “People visiting the fair should feel like they are a part of the event. We don’t want people to feel alienated,” says Abhijay Gupta. To keep the event interactive there will be live “rickshaw painting” sessions. “Since the event will take place at the intersection of Park street and Free school street we hope to approach some rickshaw pullers from that area and ask them if we can paint their rickshaws,” says Gupta.

Though the Magic Wallrush has so far been projected as a youth event, the orgainsers insist that everybody is welcome to do their own thing. “We will also have an open-mic hour where people can come and play music, sing, dance, recite poetry etc,” adds Sett. There are grand plans to make Magic Wallrush a “major alternative art festival” —“we hope to make it something like the Kala ghoda art festival in Mumbai. “We want Kolkatans to look forward to the event. There should be some sort of brand recognition,” says Ghosh.
