Political observers are of the opinion that by making three MPs from north Bengal,a traditionally Congress stronghold,as union ministers,the Congress high command wanted to signal its constituencies in the minority dominated districts of Murshidabad,Malda,and North and South Dinajpur that the party will be with them. For the moment we can leave south Bengal for the Trinamool and the CPIM to battle it out between themselves, a senior Congress leader told The Indian Express.
Trinamool plans revenge,may make Cong turncoat MLA a minister
If the Congress tried to send a strong signal to the Trinamool Congress by making two known enemies of Mamata Banerjee ministers in the Union cabinet,the Trinamool is going to make Krishnendu Nanarayan Choudhury,the Congress MLA from Ingrej Baazar who is all set to rejoin the Mamatas outfit,as a minister in the state cabinet. Sources said Mamata wants one of the portfolio held earlier by Congress MLA to be given to Choudhury who fell out with the Congress.
CPM too picks holes,says futile exercise
The CPM has also criticised the reshuffle of the ministers by Congress-led UPA government saying the it was a futile exercise. What the Congress should do is to change its policies. Mere change of faces will not do any good to the people, said Rabin Deb,CPM state secretariat member.
