West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination for 2011 has been postponed by over a month and will be held on May 22 this year. The examination was scheduled on April 17,but since the first phase of elections in the state is on April 18,the board has decided to postpone the elections.
We had no other options but to postpone the examinations. As per the directions of the Supreme Court,we have to declare the results by June 15. We will try to declare the results in scheduled time but in case we cannot we will approach the court, said Siddhartha Dutta,Chairman of the Joint Entrance Board.
As per the revised schedule,on May 22,the examination of Mathematics will be held from 9.30 am to 11.30 am,Physics and Chemistry from 12.30 pm to 2.30 pm and Biological Sciences from 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm.
About 1.30 lakh candidates will write the examination this year for admission to about 28,000 seats in engineering colleges and about 11,00 seats in medical colleges across the state.
Regarding the recent Supreme Court decision on having a common entrance examination for entry to medical colleges in the country,Dutta said,We have declared the schedule of the examination. In case there are any guidelines from the Medical Council of India (MCI),we will consider them.
