Panel probing Quasem death submits report

The panel probing the unnatural death of Mostafa Bin Quasem — the CPM MLA who reportedly jumped from a hostel balcony last year — has handed over its report to the chief secretary in a sealed cover on April 9. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee set up the probe commission headed by Justice D P Sengupta 10 months ago.

According to Kazi Safiuddin Ahmed,counsel of the state government,CM will decide on the action to be taken on the basis of the recommendations of the commission. The report is likely to be placed in the Assembly,said a source in Writers’ Building.

On May 29,2011,Quasem’s body was found on the rooftop of an old canteen of the MLA hostel. The CPM claimed that Quasem had committed suicide. But Quasem’s family suspected foul play.
