No info on observers to poll panel from state

THE state election commission did not receive any communication from the state government today with respect to the Calcutta High Court order that had categorically told the latter to furnish the list of observers to the state poll authority as well as inform it about the central security forces for holding the polls.

THE state election commission did not receive any communication from the state government today with respect to the Calcutta High Court order that had categorically told the latter to furnish the list of observers to the state poll authority as well as inform it about the central security forces for holding the polls.

The Calcutta High Court on Friday directed the state to send the names of observers by Saturday. Tapas Roy,secretary of the state election commission, said the commission office was open today but there was no response from the state government.

The High Court order stated: “The Commission, while intimating the state government the three dates of election and district wise grouping, shall also provide a revised time-table,which will ensure holding of panchayat elections before the present terms of the elected bodies expire’’. The term of the present three-tier panchayats will expire on June 10.
