Murthy all set to mentor IT panel

Former Infosys chief N R Narayana Murthy has finally agreed to become the chief mentor of West Bengal government's IT advisory group

Former Infosys chief N R Narayana Murthy has finally agreed to become the chief mentor of West Bengal government’s IT advisory group, which will not only formulate a new IT policy for the state but will also present a blueprint for spreading e-governance in every sphere of public administration.

Commerce and Industries Minister Partha Chatterjee, who also holds the portfolio of IT,announced this on Monday in Kolkata.

“The only thing he (Narayana Murthy) told us is that he would not be able to attend all the meetings of the advisory group as he remains out of the country most of the times. For that reason he asked us if we could arrange for video-conferencing and we have agreed to do that,” said Chatterjee.

However,Murthy will attend the first meeting of the group,he added.

While Sam Pitroda will head the group, other members include IT experts like Ambarish Dasgupta of PWC,Kalyan Kar,Joydeep Dutta Gupta,S S Radhakrishna,IT heads of Besu,ITT Kharagpur,Jadavpur University among others. The minister also said that he was taking advice from other experts and will be meeting Nandan Nilekani, president of NASCOM on Tuesday.

This may not be the first association of Murthy with any state government. He is set to head the proposed “incubation centre” for young entrepreneurs in Gujarat. Murthy who recently met Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi had said he would accept the offer if the state government gives it to him in writing.
