The standoff between the state government and the State Election Commission reached Raj Bhavan today,with Governor M K Naryanan critisicing Trinamool Congress general secretary Mukul Roys statement that State Election Commissioner Meera Pandey was working to safeguard the interest of the CPM
Asked to react on Mukul’s statement,the governor said,Such utterances about someone carrying constitutional responsibility is unfortunate and should be avoided.
Meanwhile the state government announced that it would issue a notification unilaterally after March 15 on the dates of the panchayat election.
Panchayat Minister Subrata Mukherjee said,After the budget session we will send letter to the SEC and the state government will issue a notification for the date of panchayat elections in consultation with the SEC.
The state government has already said it is keen on conducting the election on April 24 and 27. But the commission has insisted on a three-phase schedule and is awaiting a reply from the state on the proposal.
