The Election Commission (EC) has decided to upload all instances of violation of model code of conduct in the public domain,including on its website,by April 2,the last date of filing nomination papers.
The website-page will contain all the information about parties violating the code of conduct as also the number of times they have committed such violations. We have received several complaints on violation of model code of conduct till date. We have listed all of them with a party-wise break-up. By the last date of nomination,we will upload all the information in the public domain,so that the voters can have a clear picture of every political party on their own, said Debashis Sen,Chief Electoral Officer of the Election Commission in the state.
However,Sen added the EC does not have any provision of statutory punishment in case of such violations. The violation of model code of conduct includes offering bribes to voters,wall-graffito,making communal speeches while campaigning and inaugurating or declaring any new project. Meanwhile,Sen confirmed the Chief Election Commissioners visit to the state on March 19.
In a separate development,Left Fronts chairman Biman Bose filed a complaint with the EC in Delhi alleging the meeting at Nandigram on March 14 by Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee was a violation of the model code of conduct.
The list grows longer
Samik Lahiri,the CPM MP and likely candidate from Diamond Harbour,has allegedly inaugurated a school in the area,which may be in violation of the model code of conduct.
CEO Debashis Sen said no official complaint has been lodged with the EC yet. The case has been reported to us. We are looking into the matter, Sen added.
