Man detained at Sealdah

A man was detained by the Government Railway Police at Sealdah station for allegedly taking two minor girls for child trafficking.

A man was detained by the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Sealdah station for allegedly taking two minor girls for child trafficking. Initial investigations have,however,revealed that Mohammad Farukh Ahmed was taking the girls,Payel Mal (7) and Tuktuki Mal (9),to work as domestic helps at a house in Chitpur.

He was spotted by a few commuters while he was travelling with the duo from Birbhum on Ranaghat-Sealdah local. The passengers found his movements suspicious and when the train reached Sealdah around 9:15 am,they raised an alarm and handed him over to the GRP officers.

An officer said Farukh and the girls are residents of Birhbhum. According to GRP,Faurkh gave the reference of doctor Abhijit Kumar Nag,who lives at Chitpur 6K BT Road,to whose house the girls were being taken to work as domestic helps. “We have asked Nag to meet us and also contacted the family of the children,” said a GRP official of the station.

The GRP has taken the kids in its custody.
