Two days after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated North Bengal festival and awarded Bongo Samman to some eminent personalities,CPM on Sunday, launched a scathing attack against her saying the state government was showering money on persons who are loyal to her.
The former minister and CPM state committee member Asok Bhattacharjee accused Banerjee of using public money in unproductive purposes like organising festivals at a time when the chief minister herself keeps claiming that the state government was passing through worst financial crisis and transport employees were not getting their salaries.
Banerjee,on Friday, gave away Bongo Samman Awards to some eminent personalities including Trinamool MLA and actor,Chiranjeet, singer Nachiketa.
We have seen some scenes during inauguration of North Bengal Festivals we had never seen in West Bengal, Bhattacharjee said. In the name of holding North Bengal festival, puja was offered to Mamata. We have never seen in the past spending of such huge amount of of money for such a festival. Lakhs of rupees were spent on making cut out and hoarding of Chief Minister. Such scenes are seen only in Uttar Pradesh. At a time when transport employees are not getting their salaries, the chief minister keeps giving monetary awards to people some of whom are close to her party, he said.
The CPM leader also said the chief minister has become a product of a company. Her photograph was seen along with a film star in a hoarding of a private company. She has become a product. We have never seen such things in West Bengal. The way she moved from one corner to other on the dais during inauguration of North Bengal festival, remembered me Charlie Chaplins Great Dictator.
We have decided to ignore him (Bhattacharjee) as he complains to justify his presence felt in North Bengal. On behalf of the festival organising committee,we strongly condemn his comments. Awards were given to those who are respected by all. Chiranjit has contributed a lot in the film industry. It does not matter whether he (Bhattacharjee) knows Chiranjit or not, North Bengal development minister Gautam Deb said.
