Mamata Banerjee announces four industrial parks, convention centre in North Bengal

Of the four industrial parks, two will be set up in Jalpaiguri and two in Alipurduar district, the CM said, adding they will be built on a total of 123 acres of land and provide employment to over 4,200 people.

The Chief Minister said, “The state government will spend Rs 79 crore on the project. This year, we have already allocated 2,500 acres of land for different industrial units which will bring more than Rs 25,000 crore revenue and generate more than 75,000 jobs.”

She said, “We have an international convention centre with 100 hotel rooms in Digha. We have a convention centre (Biswa Bangla) in Kolkata. I think one should be there in Siliguri as well. It will facilitate business and investment. Business summits and workers’ meetings can be held there.”

She added, “Many people come to North Bengal as it is a beautiful region. The natural beauty here is incomparable. Therefore, a beautiful convention centre should be set up here. I have already identified land for the purpose. Nearly 10 acres land will be provided for the project. Eight acres can be used to set up shopping malls.”

She also said, “Goutam (TMC leader) had also suggested two locations to me. A four-acre land parcel is available opposite North Bengal University, near Bagdogra. That land might be small for the centre, but an industrial park can be set up there. A hotel can also come up there.”

The CM also announced six Volvo buses from North Bengal to Digha for visiting the newly constructed Jagannath temple in the coastal town.

She said, “Tomorrow onwards, six Volvo buses from North Bengal will go to Jagannath temple.”
