A delegation of the Left Front met West Bengal Governor M K Narayanan on Monday and complained about the post-poll political violence in the state. The delegation, which included Mohd Selim,Robin Deb,Pratim Chatterjee and Manoj Bhattacharya, submitted a memorandum to the Governor in this regard.
Within days of the results of the Assembly elections, several incidents of political violence have taken place in the state. In a turn of events, the Left Front has been at the receiving end with two of their leaders having been killed and several supporters injured in clashes.
On Sunday, after visiting the troubled areas in Garbeta where one of their zonal committee leaders,Jiten Nandy, was killed,a Left Front delegation also went to Saltora in Bankura district where another CPM local committee secretary,Ajit Lohar, was killed in the evening.
The Left Front delegation accused the Trinamool Congress of creating panic among its workers across the state. It also informed the Governor that several CPM workers were arrested on false charges and urged him to take immediate steps to stop the violence. The Governor has assured us that steps would be taken in the next 48 hours. The events are probably an indication of the darker days ahead in the states democratic set-up, said CPM leader Mohd Selim.
