Kolkata shivers as mercury dips to 14.4 degree Celsius, coldest day so far this season

The weather department has predicted that the minimum temperature in Kolkata to be around 14 degrees for the next few days.

The city shivered as the mercury dipped to 14.4 degree Celsius on Saturday — the lowest recorded so far this season.

As per the India Meteorological Department, the maximum and minimum temperatures are most likely to be around 24˚C and 14˚C respectively with a mainly clear sky.

The temperature on Friday morning was 14.7 degrees Celsius, which is one degree less than normal. The department has predicted that the minimum temperature in Kolkata to be around 14 degrees for the next few days.

The temperatures in the city may drop by another degree in the coming week, it said.

There will be no significant variation in temperature in the districts of south Bengal, whereas dense fog will prevail at some places in northern districts.

According to IMD, there is no chance of rain in the coming days and northern districts will experience dry weather.

Cyclone Midhili that was formed in the Bay of Bengal in mid-November moved towards Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh coast, bringing light to moderate rain to many parts of South Bengal, including Kolkata for three days.
