Kabuliwala murder accused surrender

On October 9,35-year-old Anwar was stabbed to death allegedly by Ajij and Amir at their 45,Market Street residence.

They were absconding since the murder took place.

“We conducted several raids to arrest Ajij and Amir. The people of the Pashtun community in the city cooperated with us. Today,both the accused have surrendered,” said Damayanti Sen,Deputy Commissioner (Detective Department) of Kolkata police.

According to Raffat Umar Quereshi,Anwar’s neighbour,the relationship between Anwar and his cousins was strained for the last three to four months.

Quereshi said: “They used to fight almost everyday. The relationship turned sour after Amir came to the city six months ago. Around 15 years ago,Anwar was handed over the money lending business of his brother Naim Khan.”

“But he was making losses and living extravagantly. So,Naim sent Amir to take over the business from Anwar. This led to bitterness among them,” added Quereshi.

A senior officer of the New Market police said that four Kabuliwalas,including a cook,used to stay in the same flat.

The cook and another person — apart from the accused — had witnessed the incident.

“We have interrogated them. In their statement,they said that Anwar was killed by his cousins after they a quarrel over some business issue,” he added.
