JHARGRAM: The West Bengal government on Friday announced Rs 3 lakh as compensation to the families of those killed in the derailment of the Mumbai-bound Jnaneshwari Express. Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta,who visited the accident site,told reporters the government would bear the cost of treatment of the injured passengers.

Air India sends relief aircraft to site

KOLKATA: Air India on Friday pressed into service a special relief aircraft to help the victims of the rail derailment at West Bengal. A 48-seater ATR-42 aircraft took off from the Kolkata airport this morning for the Kalaikunda airstrip near the disaster site with a 43-member team of National Disaster Mangagement officials and 500 kgs of relief material. Two officials of Air India,including an engineer,were also on the flight to extend logistical support to clear the aircraft.

CR sets up helpline for victims’ relatives

MUMBAI: Railways said they have set up helpline at several stations in Maharashtra to assist the victims’ relatives. Night trains in 5 states may be suspended

NEW DELHI: In the wake of the latest Maoist attack,the Railways is considering halting night operations in five Naxal-hit states. “We are discussing the issue of suspending night operation in Orissa,Bihar,Bengal,Jharkhand and Chhatisgarh. A decision will be taken shortly,” said Vivek Sahai,Railway Member (Traffic).
