Flood situation in WB serious: minister
Kolkata: The flood situation in West Bengal remained serious on Thursday with several rivers in north and south Bengal flowing above the danger mark as further release of water from reservoirs of the Damodar Valley Corporation threatened to submerge fresh areas,irrigation minister Manas Bhuniya said.
Govt to expand Kisan Credit Card cover
Kolkata: The West Bengal government will take up a special drive to expand the Kisan Credit Card cover among farmers,Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Thursday. After meeting representatives of Nabard and State-Level Bankers Committee,Banerjee said Rs 11,535 crore of the states entitlement of Rs 33,000 crore under KCC had been disbursed and the drive was aimed at disbursing the remaining Rs 21,465 crore.
Panels to monitor sponge iron units
Kolkata: Authorities have been asked to take steps against pollution by sponge iron units in West Bengal. Committees have been set up to look into the issue and assess the situation while sponge iron units have been urged to develop green belts to minimise pollution,Environment Minister Sudarshan Ghosh Dastidar told the assembly.
Septicemic dies after wrong injection
Kolkata: A septicemic patient died after he was allegedly administered anti-venom serum meant for another patient in a state-run hospital here. Prankrishna Sarkar,50,referred to the National Medical College and Hospital from the M R Bangur hospital where he was admitted for septicemia,was allegedly given the injection by a nurse,sources said.
