Deboshree Roy robbed on highway
Unidentified armed persons waylaid a vehicle in which popular Bengali film actor Deboshree Roy was travelling and fled away with mobile phones and money near Gopiballavpur,police said. However,Deboshree,after introducing herself,told them that they are like her brothers. After listening to her,the group allowed our vehicle to go, said Mrigen Roy,elder brother of the actor. The incident happened on Wednesday night when Roy was on her way to Kolkata with some members of her troupe,after a show at Gopiballavpur.
Hawkers not happy with new policy
Terming the new West Bengal Urban Street Vendor Policy a modified version of Operation Sunshine,the hawkers on Thursday objected to some of its provisions.
There is a provision in the policy which states that the hawkers can be evicted from any place if it is necessary. The policy also states that the licences of the hawkers could be revoked when required. If the policy is so,then where is the security for the hawkers, said Shaktiman Ghosh,secretary,Hawker Sangram Samity.
The hawkers are demanding social security and grievance redressal mechanism. Moreover,we want our representatives to be present in the state and district level steering committees of hawkers, added Ghosh.
