She is nothing short of an icon in her home town Agartala, but the winner of this year’s Indian Idol,Saurabhee Debbarma, has her feet firmly on the ground. “I was surprised to find see the turn up in my felicitation ceremony back home,” says Saurabhee who was in town to release her latest album. “People were shouting out my name,it was quite a heady feeling,” she adds.

Saurabhee joined the ever-increasing list of Reality show winners from the North East, and is proud of the fact. “I’m glad that mainstream India is finally waking up to us. The North East is full of talent,” she says.

Saurabhee, who is “happy” with the way her career is shaping up,doesn’t believe in planning. “A year ago I couldn’t even dream of being an Indian Idol. I don’t know what future holds for me,but I will try my hands at playback singing,” she says.
