:The police on Saturday detained a folk singer for alleged Maoist links. Senior officers said,Ajit Mahato,a folk artist,has been picked up for interrogation. Mahato,a resident of Golbandhi village in Jhargram,was in the police radar for a long time,said an officer. Praveen Tripathi,SP,Jhargram,said: “We have started examining him. However,we have not yet arrested him. Some of his activities seem to be suspicious to us.” Meanwhile,DGP Naparajit Bhattacharya on Saturday visited Purulia and held meetings with the IG,Western Range,SP,Purulia and the other senior officers along with the CRPF commandants.

Cong leader among 4 dead in accident
Four persons died and one was critically injured after a car rammed into a tea stall at Boroduwari in Malda on Saturday. The accident took place after the driver lost control of the car carrying Congress workers. Three of the victims died on the spot and another succumbed to injuries,said Bhuban Mondal,SP,Malda. One of the victims was a local Congress leader. The driver has been arrested.
