Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday made a veiled attack on the Congress for playing the Gorkhaland politics in order to win one Lok Sabha seat in the Hills.
Addressing a public meeting in the Dooars region,Mamata said: Our government and I would not forget any political party or any organisation if they put any effort to revive the separatist movement. I know that there is a political party which is trying to give a boost to the separatist movement for capturing a parliamentary seat. But I would never allow the divisive politics to happen in the state.
She was indirectly referring to Congress MP Deepa Dasmunsi leading a Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) delegation to meet President Pranab Mukherjee and Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde in Delhi recently. The GJM has once again invoked the demand of the separate state of Gorkhaland.
People want to come to Darjeeling. This year,so many tourists came to Darjeeling. So,if someone wants to revive a separatist movement,it wont go down well with the public. Moreover, there are tribal groups who are intending to trigger a riot in the area for their vested interest. My government is rough and tough. And Trinamool Congress government will never allow this to happen, Mamata said.
Referring to development projects being implemented in the Darjeeling hills and the Dooars and Terai in the plains of north Bengal, she said: I will not allow anyone to play with fire in the Hills at the cost of peace, and added: I want to see a smile on everyones face.
Meanwhile,GJM leaders did not meet Mamata. Roshan Giri, general secretary of the GJM,said: All our senior leaders were busy today. So we could meet the Chief Minister.
