The rally was expected to march from Batasia to Chowrasta where a public meeting was scheduled. However, the police stopped the march at Batasia and leaders had to hold a meeting at Gorkha Dukh Vivarak Samiti Hall.
The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) on Wednesday called off the indefinite shutdown in Darjeeling after 104-days bringing much awaited relief to the people of the hills that were reeling due to the bandh.
"I appeal to the GJM and its leader Bimal Gurung to withdraw the ongoing bandh and to help create a conducive atmosphere for allowing normalcy to return to the area, particularly in view of the festival season," Rajnath Singh said
The Gorkhaland stir took to a new level in Darjeeling as the political turmoil caused violence and ended up in a hostile situation. The clash between GJM and security forces resulted in burning media vehicles by the outraged protestors.
