The CPM and its allies have raised the question over the role of observers sent by the Election Commission of India to take stock of the law and order situation in various parts of the state.

While a delegation of Left met Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi on Friday, the party leaders today raised doubts about the neutrality of the team. While CPM leader Mohammad Selim called the visit as one-sided,CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta claimed they were not neutral.

“We have asked the Election Commission to send another team to West Bengal,” Dasgupta who was part of the delegation that met CEC said at the sidelines a rally in Kolkata.

“The team went to Howrah district but did not go to Udyanarainpur where CPM members are being attacked by both Trinamool Congress and Congress workers,” Selim said on the sidelines of the party’s two-day state committee meeting. Toeing the party line,Selim also called the visit of the observers unprecedented.
