A day after one 90-year-old woman was killed during a robbery in a posh area in the city, police officials have managed to get important leads in the case.

According to police sources, the robbers who entered the complex near Salt Lake in the guise of painters have been identified. The police found a shirt smeared with paint and having a tag attached to it from the flat. After interrogating the 12 detained painters, the police have got links about the shirt-owner’s alleged role in the case.

“We are conducting raids at several places and are hopeful about nabbing the culprits soon,” said an official. The officials also feel the robbers had planned the time of the crime well. In her interrogation, the maid,Bina Ganguly, has told the police that she had recognised two of the robbers.

Wednesday’s incident has again exposed the “lack of security” in highrises and housing complexes. The police’s initial response has also come under flak. “We dialled emergency service number 100 repeatedly but there was no response,” said a resident of the area.

Jawed Shamim,JCP (Headquarters) said emergency service of Dial 100 was fully functional and the residents might not have been able to connect because of some temporary snag. The Indian Express could not connect through Dial 100 even after trying several times.
