Contractor shot at for refusing to pay extortion money

A 30-year-old real estate contractor was shot at by six motorbike-borne criminals in a crowded market place near his Bhowanipore residence on Sunday morning creating tension in the area.

A 30-year-old real estate contractor was shot at by six motorbike-borne criminals in a crowded market place near his Bhowanipore residence on Sunday morning creating tension in the area. Santosh Shau,who sustained a bullet in his leg,was taken to SSKM Hospital.

He was fired at for reportedly refusing to pay up Rs 1 lakh as extortion money.

According to locals,six youths on a motorbike stopped Shau on Yogesh Chandra Mitra Road around 8 a.m and demanded extortion money from him. Shau refused to pay them after which an altercation ensured. In the midst of altercation,one of the miscreants pulled out a revolver and fired at Shau’s leg. He fell on the ground and lost consciousness.

Locals took Shau to SSKM Hospital. His family members have lodged a written complaint with the Bhowanipore police station against three youths whom they suspect to be behind the firing.
