The state unit of the Congress party on Thursday said that the Assembly should be convened immediately for an emergency session in the wake of Sankrail episode.
Our party demands an emergency session of the state Assembly as the law and order situation under Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has collapsed in the state, Congress Legislative Party leader Manas Bhuniya told mediapersons. He also said the report filed by R D Meena, principal secretary of Backward Classes Welfare Department,be made public.
He said that after the attack on the chief ministers convoy in November last year, excesses were committed against the tribals in Lalgarh. Meena had gone to Lalgarh and had recorded the police atrocities on tribals. It is very unfortunate why the government has not made the report public, said Bhuniya.
Accusing the government of letting the situation go out of control,Bhuniya said the then officer-in-charge of Lalgarh police station,Sandip Singha Roy,used to torture the tribals. But instead of taking action against him and other guilty officers, the Left Front government offered him a coveted posting,he said.
