Speaking during the adjournment motion, the CM said: “Did you forget what happened in Nandigram after switching the lights off for two hours?" (Express File Photo) BJP MLAs on Thursday walked out of the Assembly during an adjournment motion, which was brought by their own leadership over panchayat poll violence. The trigger was Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s remark against Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on his victory in the 2021 Nandigram Assembly election result.
Adhikari had defeated Mamata by 1,956 votes.
Speaking during the adjournment motion, the CM said: “Did you forget what happened in Nandigram after switching the lights off for two hours?”
As soon as she said this, the BJP MLAs demanded her remarks be expunged from the record. However, Speaker Biman Banerjee refused to do so, triggering the BJP to walk out of the House.
Outside the Assembly, Adhikari, who protested along with party colleagues by waving black flags, told mediapersons: “After winning in Nandigram, I wanted to thank the people of Nandigram from the floor of the Assembly. But I was not allowed to speak by being told that the matter was pending matter in court. But today the chief minister spoke about Nandigram election results in the Assembly. We demanded the remarks to be expunged as the matter is still sub-judice.”
“I spoke with the Speaker for three minutes, but he did not listen. The Speaker cannot take different decisions on the same subject,” he added.
It is to be noted that the TMC moved the court against the Nandigram election results.
