Five personnel of the State Armed Police have been suspended for dereliction of duty in connection with the triple murder in Barrackpore on Sunday.

KOLKATA: Five personnel of the State Armed Police have been suspended for dereliction of duty in connection with the triple murder in Barrackpore on Sunday. The suspension of an inspector has also been recommended and an assistant commandant of the 8th battalion has been transferred from his post. We have suspended three assistant sub-inspectors,a sub-inspector and a constable. We have also recommended the suspension of an inspector. The assistant commandant of the 8th battalion has also been transferred, said R K Singh,DIG,Armed Police. On Sunday,a constable of the State Armed Police had gunned down a couple and their relative with his service rifle.

Move to upgrade water transport

Kolkata: Minister for Cooperation and Inland Water Transport Haider Aziz Safwi on Tuesday said efforts are on to turn inland water transport into a full-fledged department. But it will take some more time, said Safwi.
