Student dies during a scuffle with classmate

Kolkata: A class XI student died after he was pushed by his classmate during a violent scuffle that broke out between them inside a school premises on Wednesday. The incident took place at Gangapur High School near Kudghat in South 24-Parganas district. According to the police,Raju Mondal sustained severe head injury. Police are,however,yet to ascertain the cause of the scuffle. We are yet to receive any complaint from the family members of the victim, said police.

HC seeks govts stand on dyslexics

Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday directed the state government and the Centre to clarify their respective positions on declaring dyslexic children as handicapped. The direction came over the petition of a dyslexic girl,Payel Sarkar,who has been certified as suffering from learning disorder by the Medical College,Calcutta,but has been refused admission by Indian Institute of Hotel Management despite clearing the JEE.

HC slams PCB over Garden cold storage

Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court has asked the state Pollution Control Board to explain how a cold storage has been allowed to run outside the Indian Botanic Garden since 1974 and pollute the area. A division bench directed the board to inform the court within two weeks about the persons responsible for running the cold storage.
