Two days after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused some central ministers of promising Union Territory status to Darjeeling to GJM leaders, her party Friday again blamed the Centre for instigating trouble in the hills.
The Centre is instigating trouble to serve a political purpose, which is unfair and unethical. Darjeeling is part and parcel of West Bengal. There is no question of division of Bengal. This is the stand of the party as well as of the state government, Trinamool Congress general secretary Mukul Roy told reporters in Siliguri.
Roy,a close aide of Banerjee, was here to take stock of the situation in the backdrop of the GJM reviving the Gorkhaland movement.
He said the state government will deal with the indefinite bandh beginning in the hills Saturday.
We do not want it. The administration will see how to deal with it, he said, adding,We want peace and development in Darjeeling.
Meanwhile, the Congress rubbished the allegations of Centre fomenting trouble in the hills and said the TMC was pointing fingers as it could not manage the situation now.
The Centre did not give any instigation. They cant manage the situation and that is why they are accusing the Centre, WBPCC general secretary Pradip Bhattacharya said.
They used to say that the hills are smiling. Now when the hills are crying, they have sought central forces. The Centre has given it, Bhattacharya said, adding the state government should convene an all-party meeting on the situation in the hills.
North Bengal Hill Development minister Gautam Deb condemned the burning down of a forest bungalow last night at Takdah, where Banerjee had stayed during a visit to Darjeeling.
All those involved will be arrested. We will not allow anyone to take the law into their hands, he said.
