CAB no to foreign players

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has barred overseas players to play in local tournaments. The decision was taken in the CAB working committee meeting on Saturday.

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has barred overseas players to play in local tournaments. The decision was taken in the CAB working committee meeting on Saturday. The CAB’s decision will prevent Sanath Jayasuriya,Chaminda Vaas,Thilan Samaraweera,Ajantha Mendis and Sakib Al Hasan to play in the CAB league and knock-out tournaments. While Jayasuriya and Vaas were signed by Mohun Bagan,Kalighat had roped in Hasan and Mendis. Samaraweera had joined Bata.

“We followed the BCCI directives that were issued in its last annual general meeting. The directive bars foreign players to play in domestic tournaments,” CAB joint-secretary Biswarup Dey said.

Incidentally,controversy had sparked off after Jayasuriya’s name appeared on the registration lists of both Mohun Bagan and Kalighat.

Meanwhile,there will be priced tickets for the India-South Africa Test to be played at the Eden Gardens from February 14. About 10,000 tickets priced at Rs 750 and 1500 will be sold to public.
