Rs 4 lakh,gold jewellery looted
Burglars struck at an apartment in 13/A,Free School Street,on Monday evening and decamped with Rs 4 lakh cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 2.75 lakh. The complainant,Rahul Khanna (25),later filed an FIR with the New Market police station.
Around 8.30 pm,Rahul came home along with his mother and found the locks open. They discovered the cupboard locker was open and the cash and ornaments were missing, said a senior officer of the New Market police station. The burglars,however,did not break open the door. Instead they unlocked the door and the lockers before looting the cash and ornaments. Detective Department DC Damayanti Sen said: It is not clear why the family made the sudden visit to the city and why the cash and gold ornaments were kept in the locker. It seems the burglars knew the household well and had the keys of the flat and the locker.
Trinamool activist shot dead in Bankura
A Trinamool Congress activist was shot dead at Ranibandh in Bankura district on Tuesday.
Swapan Singh Sardar (42) was killed when six armed men raided a tea shop in Mithan village and opened fire at him.
Trinamool vice-president Kashi Mishra blamed the CPM for the killing. The CPM conducted the murder under Maoists cover,said Mishra.
Banukra SP Vishal Garg said: I cannot say whether the Maoists or the CPM are responsible for the killing.
