Blood donation camp registers 1,126 volunteers
The ‘scoreboard’ of volunteers at Wednesday’s annual voluntary blood donation camp at the Eden Gardens registered an impressive 860 names,while the total figure,including the ‘results’ from the smaller camps across various districts,was 1,126. The camp was organised by the Association for Voluntary Blood Donors to mark the 30th Frank Worrell Day. The certificates for the volunteers this time round will be signed by Dr Ali Bacher.

Manzoor shines with bat and ball
Seventeen-year-old Noman Manzoor came up with a sparkling all-round performance to guide his side Victoria Sporting Club to an emphatic six-wicket win against Sahapur SC in a CAB 2nd division league match at High Court ground on Wednesday. Manzoor picked up 5 for 77 with his left-arm spin to dismiss Sahapur for 283,as Pinku Das top-scored with 121. Victoria overhauled the target with six wickets to spare,riding on Tamajit Karmakar’s unbeaten 145 and Manzoor’s 50. With the win,Victoria have qualified for the super league.

Kolkata Horse Show
Ris Shaitan Singh from the 61st Cavalry secured the first place in the Show Jumping Prelim (Tech) at the 58th Kolkata Horse Show that is being held at the Pat Williamson Grounds,Maidan race course,on Wednesday. The six-day National Equestrian Championship and the Kolkata Horse Show is being organised by Fort William Riding & Polo Club (FWRPC).

East Bengal,Chirag United win
MARGAO/KOLKATA: East Bengal rode their luck to beat hosts Sporting Clube de Goa by a solitary goal in the I-League match at the Nehru Stadium,Fatorda,in Margao,on Wednesday. Yusif Yakubu struck the winner. In Kolkata,Chirag United beat Lajong FC 2-0 in their last match of the first leg of the I-League at YBK and securing the second spot in league table after Dempo. Both the goals were scored by striker Joshimar.
