An open air library where you can spend time with your favourite classic and a cup of coffee. It will also play hosts to exhibitions, talks, readings and quizzes. Sounds nice? It sure does, more so because the highly successful Penguin Classic Library at India Habitat Centre at Delhi,is shifting to Kolkata for a month. The Penguin Classics Library in Kolkata will be held between 23 October and 23 November at Worldview Bookstore in Jadavpur University . The month-long exhibition will also include talks, discussions and readings on classics at the venue which will be open to all. “We wanted the entire range of Penguin classics to be displayed together. Since such an effort would have taken up a whole bookshop we decided to hold this event,” says Rachna Kalra of Penguin Books India. Since the venue happens to be the intellectual hub of the city,Jadavpur University,we can expect a host of “intellectually stimulating” events. The programmes include readings from their favourite classics by Anjum Katyal ,Abhijit Gupta and Aparna Chaudhuri on 26 October; a discussion on ‘Tagore and Beyond: Modern Masters in Translation’ among Reba Som ,Sukanta Chaudhuri ,Uma Das Gupta and Tathagata Banerjee on 27 October,an interactive session on ‘What Makes a Book a Classic?’ on 12 November; and the release of the Penguin Classics edition of Satyajit Ray’s Indigo: Stories followed by a discussion on ‘Ray: The Renaissance Man’ on 13 November
