Reality television is supposed to be the land of wannabes, not Amitabh Bachchan. Before one could ask what indeed has lured him to the universe of Rakhi Sawants and Rahul Mahajans and host Bigg Boss 3,Bachchan cleverly put the question to senior representatives of the channel,Colors. “So,tell me,why have you chosen me as the host?” he enquired at a promotional event in Delhi. Rajesh Kamat,COO of Colors India, politely replied: “We wanted Bollywood’s Big Boss to meet TV’s Bigg Boss.”

Bachchan,68,who successfully hosted Kaun Banega Crorepati? a few years ago, turning the quiz show into a national pastime, said,“I had to justify my new innings on TV with a suitable role that allowed room for experimentation. This show offers me that space.” Bachchan, who claimed to be an avid follower of the show since its inception, said he found the psychological battle between the housemates intriguing. “I am looking forward to my role of decoding the emotions of the participants and understanding their psychology and philosophy of life without being philosophical myself. I would like to reveal the true personality of individuals behind the masks when they are confronted with a certain situation,” he said, without revealing much about the 14 contestants on the show.

Bigg Boss 3,airing twice a week from October 4,will be slightly different from the previous two seasons. This time, viewers will get to “vote-in” a participant instead of voting out a participant. And,of course, listen to Bachchan’s pop philosophy before bedtime.
