Governor receives the 15th Mother Teresa International Award in Kolkata on Friday.
NOTED filmmaker Shyam Benegal is set to make a biopic on Nobel Laureate Mother Teresa. While the current Censor Board Chairman, Pahlaj Nihalani — who has produced films like Shola Aur Shabnam and Andaz — will produce the untitled film, the music will be given by Ravindra Jain.
This was announced by Anthony Arun Biswas, president of All India Minorities and Weaker Sections Council and Chairman of Mother Teresa International Award Committee, which on Friday conferred awards on eminent personalities in Kolkata. Governor Kesri Nath Tripathi, who was awarded in the social work category, was the chief guest at the function.
“While Benegal has sent his letter of consent, talks have also been held with Nihalni and Jain. I went to Mumbai to speak to them… Benegal will soon be out looking for the film’s cast. I am in touch with the Missionaries of Charity too,’’ said Biswas.
On October 19, 2003, a documentary Mother Teresa of Calcutta — made by Fabrizio Costa of Italy — was released in Italy. Another foreign film, The Letters, was also made on her life. The Benegal film will be the first Bollywood venture on Mother.
Filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta said: “Shyam is a good friend of mine and has made a good film on Netaji Subhas Chandra. I am sure this too will be a good one.”
