Subhash Bhowmick has an unenviable task of taking Mohun Bagan to the sunny uplands of the I-League. His first test at Yuba Bharati Krirangan on Thursday is going to be the toughest of them all.
With Stanley Rozario at the helm, the green and maroons probably had no chance against the defending champions. Rozario,in his last game as Bagan coach against Churchill Brothers on Sunday, made a hash of the team combination. Bagans new technical director will have to quick fix the problems.
If I was afraid of the challenge,I wouldnt have taken this job. Dempo is the most consistent side in the last three-four years. Lets see what can be done, Bhowmick kept it short on the match eve.
Rozario had left out Jayanta Sen and Ishfaq Ahmed from the starting XI against Churchill. Jose Barreto played in the midfield to accommodate an ineffective Muritala Ali upfront.
Changes seem to be on the cards. Barreto is likely to get the licence to freewheel, while Ahmed is set to start. Defence, the real problem area of the team, doesnt have too many options and Bhowmick might have to spend a sleepless night to set it right. Goalkeeper Shilton Paul is nursing an ankle sprain and has a fifty-fifty chance of playing.
Dempo havent made a strong start to their I-League campaign losing four points in first three games. With Jochaim Abranches appearing to be a doubtful starter for his hamstring injury, the visitors might have to reshape the midfield.
