At Mother House,without Messi

Three years ago,Diego Maradona had visited the place along with his girlfriend. But Lionel Messi couldn’t visit Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity due to security concerns.

Nicolás Burdisso,Jonás Gutiérrez,Mariano Andújar,Marcos Rojo,Federico Fernández and Estaban Andrada ,however,paid a visit to the Mother House on Saturday. They were accompanied by a group of support staff. According to the sources at the Missionaries of Charity,the players went to the Mother’s tomb and and then headed to the chapel where the Mother used to attend prayers.

“They came quietly,visited the usual places and left silently. There were not many fans outside the House,” said the source.

Messi’s absence,however,was a big disappointment. Maybe he would have liked to pay a visit as well. It’s a place which everybody likes to visit to pay homage to the Apostle of Peace. But the world’s greatest footballer at the moment is reportedly very scared after what happened on Friday night. A group of police personnel mobbed Messi to click pictures instead of providing security to the superstar.

In fact,the West Bengal police has managed to create more doubts in Messi’s mind than the rival defenders. And probably it was one of the reasons why the Argentina captain didn’t attend the post- match press conference. Only coach Alejandro Sabella came.

Then there was the power cut,and Sabella’s attempt to calm the nerves notwithstanding,the incident hasn’t gone down well with the team.

Meanwhile,Bidhannagar Municipality has levied a Rs 32-lakh service tax on the organiseres for hosting the match at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan. Celebrity Management Group,however,has refused to pay the tax. “It’s between the state government and the Indian Football Association. We
